Alexander Borodin (1833-1887) started working on his only opera Prince Igor in 1869, but at his death 18 years later it remained unfinished.The splendid overture seems to have been completed by Glazunov, partly from his memories of the composer playing the piece at the piano, partly by using Borodin’s sketches.
