《思想起》是流傳於台灣南部恆春半島的經典民謠之一。它在恆春民謠的五大曲調中最為人熟知，是恆春地區的代表歌謠，也是一部珍貴的本土民間文學作品。該曲在恆春有多種寫法，如「自想起」、「自想枝」、「思鄉起」、「思想枝」、「樹相枝」、「士雙枝」及「思想記」等。現今通行的「思想起」之名稱，乃由恆春首任鎮長葉登發所命名。葉登發認為此曲調哀婉深沉，感人至深，因此訂名為「思想起」。

管樂團的編曲進一步豐富了此曲的情感層次與音樂色彩，將恆春民謠的原始風味發揮得淋漓盡致。銅管與木管樂器的音色交融，表現出濃厚的民謠風情，打擊樂器的節奏更賦予作品鮮活的生命力，使這首傳統曲調煥發出全新的光彩。

“Siu Siang Khi” (Siáng-siūn-khí) is one of the most famous folk songs originating from the Hengchun Peninsula in southern Taiwan. Among the five major melodic types of Hengchun folk music, it is the best known and is regarded as a representative song of the region as well as a valuable piece of local folk literature.

In the Hengchun area, this tune has appeared in various written forms, such as “Tsu Siang Khi,” “Tsu Siang Ki,” “Siang Hiunn Khi,” “Siu Siang Ki,” “Tshù Siunn Ki,” “Sū Siang Ki,” and “Siu Siang Kì.” The commonly used title “思想起” was given by Yeh Deng-fa, the first mayor of Hengchun. Believing that this melody carries deep emotional resonance with its sorrowful and expressive character, he officially named it “思想起.”

The concert band arrangement further enriches the emotional depth and musical color of this piece, bringing out the rustic charm of Hengchun folk music with great vividness. The blend of brass and woodwind timbres presents a strong folk atmosphere, while the rhythmic energy of the percussion section gives the work a vibrant sense of life, allowing this traditional melody to shine with new brilliance.
