Peach Blossom Takes the Ferry’ originated from the Che
Ku Tune of Taiwanese opera, is an impish, joyful folksong. The story is about a witty Peach Blossom lady who encountered a lecherous ferryman and bet on singing according to the order of months. As we know, the twelve month puzzle naturally makes the one who started loses. To go for wool and come back shorn, the old silly ferryman lost and kept the promise to send Peach Blossom lady across the river for free. Not only the melody is a well known tune in Taiwanese opera, but it is also been used in the tea pi cking opera of Hakka culture. The tune is popular nowadays among festivals, TV, and radio broadcast. The version is transcribed by Yeh Shu Han, revealing a dramatic scene by emphasizing the humorous aspect of wind instruments.
