樂曲解說
Xikou, located in Shanxi, was a key pass along the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, where people from the barren Loess Plateau crossed the Yellow River to seek a livelihood beyond the Great Wall. Under this hardship, the folk song “Going Westward Through Xikou” emerged and spread across Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, and Gansu.
This piece follows the Xintianyou style, with woodwinds creating a simple yet melancholic tone. A clarinet duet introduces the theme, which builds through the tenor voices to a climax before the piccolo softly restates the theme, closing the piece with a sense of longing and sorrowful farewell.
