本曲改編自四川渝東南地區秀山花燈調，歌詞充滿土家族民歌特色，具有大量襯詞、襯字；黃楊木質地柔韌，適宜用作扁擔挑物，民謠藉物敘事，訴說一位年輕挑夫前往酉州，途中閒散地玩賞酉州姑娘梳頭打扮的景象，充滿盎然樂趣。編曲手法上，旋律於各聲部之間交替出現，配器粗曠中有纖細，粗細合宜，展現出恬淡雋永的音樂風格，與歌詞意象充分契合。中板段落則採用一首山歌曲調，刻劃出田園鄉間的景致，並在短暫而俐落的加速之後回到《黃楊扁擔》的主旋律，結束一段玲瓏雋朗的音樂。（羅夫 著）

This piece is adapted from the Xiu Shan Huadeng tune in the southeastern region of Sichuan and Chongqing. The lyrics are full of the characteristics of the Tujia ethnic folk songs, with plenty of modifiers and rhymes. Yellow Poplar, with its flexible texture, is suitable for use as a shouldering pole, and in this folk song, it narrates the story of a young porter traveling to Youzhou. Along the way, he leisurely admires the scene of Youzhou girls combing their hair and dressing up, brimming with joy and delight. In terms of musical arrangement, the melody alternates between different instruments, with the appropriate instrumentation, showcasing a serene and elegant musical style that harmonizes perfectly with the lyrical imagery. The moderato section adopts a mountain song tune, depicting the scenery of the rural countryside, and after a brief and brisk acceleration, it returns to the main melody of “Yellow Poplar Shouldering Pole,” concluding with a graceful and melodious musical passage.(Luo Fu Work)
