This extremely gentle melody hails from Yunnan and is sung from the perspective of a woman who metaphorically refers to her beloved as moonlight, while the small river flowing at the mountain’s base signifies her enduring longing for him. The piece begins with syncopated notes born from chaos, accompanied by harmonies that emerge from nowhere. In the arrangement of concert band, the intertwining introduction of the piano, harp, and glockenspiel leads the audience into the mysterious and sorrowful recitative of the English horn, which is then taken over and reinterpreted by the flute. Finally, after the mist once again emerges, the bass section employs augmentation to create a counterpoint with the other sections, shaping a gradually unfolding graceful melody. The piece strongly presents a hazy and bewildering musical imagery through richly varied orchestration, making it extraordinarily moving.(Luo Fu Work)
