This piece is based on the theme of the Northern Shaanxi folk song “A Girl Who Carries Water,” reflecting the hardships of rural women’s lives. The entire composition begins with a sorrowful and mournful theme and employs a traditional variation form. It introduces the melody in a mournful and slow style, gradually increasing the orchestration texture and color. Unexpectedly, it transitions into a slightly fast 6/8 meter section, symbolizing the women’s struggle against fate. The piece concludes in a grand and magnificent manner, creating a uniquely distinctive work. The orchestration is well-controlled, with high technical demands for the blending of timbres between parts and the ensemble technique in the allegretto section.(Luo Fu Work)
