Orchid Flower’ is originated from Northern Shaanxi. The local folk song genre is also known as Xintianyou, which often describes the romance between couples with heroic and bold spirit. The original melody can be traced back to Ming and Qing Dynasty according to the text appeared. The text with rough and earthy tone portrayed the complicated love story from the local. The flexible version with 5 parts and percussion instruments is adapted by Japanese composer Kohei Mikuni. The version can be played by various numbers of players and instrumentation.
The flexible version is suitable for small ensembles, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, saxophone ensembles, clarinet ensembles, string ensembles, mixed ensembles, and so on.
