音樂由銅管的四音和弦和木管的波動反覆音型，營造出清晨猶在薄霧籠罩中的部落風景，在劃破寧靜的號角聲召喚下，族人漸次聚集。古老的日月潭水社民歌「快樂的聚會」由小號領唱，眾人相和，並由作者發展為不規則節奏的舞蹈。中段的慢板取材自台東阿美族的「老人飲酒歌」，在滿懷鄉愁的旋律中，透出原住民樂天知命的本性。

本曲既非單純的將民歌和聲、配器，也不是以現代的手法予以變造，而是遵循霍斯特與葛人傑的作法，在不損害原曲的精神下，賦予民歌新的意義。

The The Harvest Festival, held at the turn of summer and autumn each year, is a grand celebration in Taiwan’s indigenous tribes. During this time, the community gathers to celebrate the bounty of crops and hunting, performing rituals to honor heaven and give thanks to the gods, praying for favorable weather in the coming year. Afterwards, the tribespeople sing and dance together, entertaining themselves and others, with feasting and merrymaking often lasting for days.

The music begins with a four-note brass chord and undulating woodwind motifs, painting a scene of the tribe at dawn, still veiled in mist. As the tranquil silence is broken by a summoning horn call, the people gradually assemble. The ancient Sun Moon Lake Thao folk song “Happy Gathering” is led by a trumpet, with the crowd joining in response, later developed by the composer into an irregular-rhythm dance. The slow middle section draws from the Taitung Amis “Elder’s Drinking Song,” its nostalgic melody reflecting the indigenous people’s cheerful resilience and harmony with fate.

This piece neither merely harmonizes and orchestrates folk tunes in a straightforward manner nor radically transforms them with modern techniques. Instead, following the approach of Holst and Grainger, it preserves the essence of the original melodies while imbuing them with new meaning.
