全曲完成於2011年6月,長約9分鐘。部落圖騰柱建於北美洲西北海岸原住民部落的房屋前面,通常代表該地區原住民重要的傳統文化表徵與遺產。柱上雕刻和繪畫記載著部族血緣來源,並穿插著帶有神話色彩或歷史事件的圖樣。這首樂曲混合了台灣、非洲、與南美地區的原住民音樂素材來創作,圖騰柱群由十六根圖騰柱組成,座落於部落中央,處於部落的核心地帶,整首作品中,以最深刻的音樂段落,試圖喚起現代社會對原住民文化的尊重,全曲節奏強烈,配器手法新穎粗獷,尤其強調非洲複合節奏的特色。
Completed in June 2011, the whole piece is around 9 minutes long. The totem carving and painting symbolizes the family lineage, often interspersed with images of mythological or historical events. It is built in front of the houses of the native American tribes on the northwest coast of North America, symbolized the traditional cultural representation and heritage of the region’s aborigines. This piece of music is a mix of Taiwanese, African, and aboriginal music materials from South America. The totem pole consists of sixteen columns, which usually been placed in the middle of the tribe. The most exciting and most dignified notes in the whole symphony aimed to arouse the modern society’s respect for the Aboriginal culture. The orchestration demonstrated a rough and novel feature with a strong rhythm, which emphasizes the character of the African compound rhythm.
